With more than seven million square feet of office space across nearly 40 buildings in downtown Atlanta, the Georgia Building Authority (GBA) has extensive facility management responsibilities and high expectations for quality. The GBA deputy executive director admired one building’s management in particular, the Capitol Hill Complex’s renovated Health Building, and saw its potential for national recognition. With the help of Veritiv, the GBA director set out to enter the building into the TOBY® (The Office Building of the Year) competition to demonstrate the GBA’s strong management and taxpayer stewardship.
The GBA director reached out to Veritiv for assistance in identifying any gaps in the products and services GBA was providing.
First, a Veritiv facility advisor performed an assessment to review the existing products and procedures used to clean and maintaining the Health Building. During the assessment, our team uncovered several opportunities to reduce costs and environmental impact. Our initial recommendations included converting washroom paper products and hand soap to more cost-effective solutions. Based on our suggestions, the GBA:
The GBA earned the esteemed TOBY Award in 2012 and experienced impressive, long-lasting results. The recommended cleaning products could produce double-digit savings on washroom materials, along with savings in other areas. They are also expected to reduce absenteeism and improve overall employee health and wellness, based on prior Health Workplace Project™ results. The GBA director and his staff were thrilled with the results.
